ABOUT
ARTIST STATEMENT Through a multimedia and conceptual approach, I layer materials and meanings to explore the complexities of the human psyche—what is unseen and unspoken. My work invites reflection, fostering connection and empathy through the interplay of form, texture, and symbolism. ARTIST BIO Liang Yuan is a Chinese American artist, psychiatrist, and psychoanalyst based in Wellesley, MA. A self-taught artist, she draws from diverse fields—including psychiatry, psychoanalysis, philosophy, history, technology, medicine and literature—to create deeply resonant and thought-provoking artistic experiences. Her practice spans painting, collage, textile, sculpture, assemblage, and installation, exploring the intersections of art, psyche, and lived experience. Beyond her studio and clinical work, she teaches at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, offering courses such as Psychoanalysis & Art and Neuroscience & Dreaming.
